A 59-year-old woman was killed in a three-vehicle collision in the unincorporated Willowbrook area after one of the drivers ran a red light, according to the California Highway Patrol’s accident report, which was released Monday.

The crash was reported at 4:14 p.m. Thursday, at the intersection of El Segundo Boulevard and Broadway, near Athens Park.

According to the CHP’s investigation, a 21-year-old woman from Gardena was driving her 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe west on El Segundo Boulevard at about 45 miles per hour toward the intersection with Broadway. A 69-year-old man was heading eastbound toward Broadway on El Segundo Boulevard in a 1993 Toyota Camry. The woman who died was riding in the Camry.

The Camry driver began turning left onto Broadway Avenue. As the driver made the turn, the light at the intersection turned red. The female driver in Tahoe failed to stop at the red light and slammed into the Camry, the CHP reported.

The force of the collision pushed the Camry into the No. 1 lane of southbound Broadway where it collided with a 2010 Honda Accord driven by a 37- year-old Los Angeles man.

The female passenger in the Camry sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was withheld pending notification of next of kin. The driver of her car suffered major injuries, including a punctured lung and broken ribs.

The female driver in the Tahoe, who apparently caused the crash, according to the CHP, suffered minor injuries that included pain in her left ribs. The Honda Accord driver suffered moderate injuries, including pain to the neck and back.

All of the people involved in this collision were wearing seat belts, according to the CHP’s report. It’s not clear whether the driver who caused the crash was arrested or cited for running the red light.

The crash remained under investigation by the CHP.
