A brush fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in the Azusa Canyon area of the Angeles National Forest, but was not threatening any structures.
Los Angeles County and U.S. Forest Service firefighters, with help from two Super Scooper aircraft, were battling the blaze, which was reported at 2:07 p.m. alongside Highway 39, at Mile Marker 21.
“It’s a very small fire, nothing to speak of,” Andrew Mitchell of the U.S. Forest Service said around 3:15 p.m., estimating the blaze had blackened about six acres of light to medium brush.
There was no word on what sparked the fire, which was north of the Morris Dam and moving uphill in steep terrain, away from Azusa, Duarte and Bradbury.
Three Los Angeles County Fire helicopters and one Los Angeles city fire helicopter were also being used to fight the fire, said county Fire Inspector Randall Wright.
