A small plane missed the runway at Catalina Island Airport in the Sky and tumbled onto a roadway below a cliff Thursday, but no one was injured, authorities said.
The crash happened at 4:08 p.m. at the airport outside Avalon, according to the Catalina Island Conservancy, which operates the airport.
None of the three people aboard the single-engine Cessna 172 was injured and witnesses reported all three “were able to leave the wreckage on their own,” conservancy spokeswoman Laura Mecoy said.
The plane came to rest on a roadway at the bottom of cliff near the end of the runway, according to a report from the scene that showed the aircraft with damage to a wing and its tail.
