A man was killed Wednesday morning in a collision between a big rig and a sedan in Lawndale and all southbound lanes of the San Diego (405) Freeway were closed for about three and a half hours, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash took place on the southbound 405 just south of Hawthorne Boulevard about 4:15 a.m., said CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos. The truck collided with the sedan and slammed the car into a wall, according to Villalobos.

A man in his 60s died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives,

A SigAlert was declared by the CHP at 4:29 a.m., Villalobos said. All southbound lanes were closed at that point and traffic was diverted off the freeway at Hawthorne Boulevard. The lanes were reopened about 8 a.m., the CHP reported.
