Four people were shot, two fatally, outside a liquor store in South Los Angeles by a man armed with a large caliber firearm, possibly a rifle, police said Sunday.
The gunfire was reported at 8:15 p.m. in the area of Avalon Boulevard and 81st Street, according to a watch commander at the Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Street Station.
The deceased victims were a 20-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
One of them died at the scene and the other was pronounced dead at a hospital, LAPD Sgt. Thomas Bojorquez said.
The two other shooting victims, both males, were hospitalized in stable condition, he said.
Suspect information was not immediately available.
Bojorquez said that based on the location of the shooting and the type of activity known to take place in the area, the shooting was being investigated as possibly gang-related.
