A murder charge was filed Tuesday against a Carson man accused of shooting his 18-year-old son in the midst of a fight.
Anderson Edward Lyiscott, 53, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which includes an allegation that he personally and intentionally discharged a handgun, which caused great bodily injury and death.
Lyiscott and his son, Giovanni, got into an argument Saturday at their home, prompting the young man to lock himself inside his room, according to Deputy District Attorney R.J. Dreiling.
Lyiscott allegedly armed himself with a gun, fired at the door handle to his son’s bedroom room and entered the room, where the two got involved in a struggle, Dreiling said.
Lyiscott’s gun discharged during the fight and his son was shot in the chest, according to the prosecutor, who said the victim was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Lyiscott, who was arrested about 7 p.m. Saturday, was ordered to be held in lieu of $3 million bail. He is due back in a Compton courtroom on March 15, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require him to stand trial.
If convicted, he could face up to 50 years to life in state prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
