A Canyon Country couple whose home burned to the ground in the Sand Fire thought they had lost three goats as well, but the animals are being cared for Tuesday at an area animal shelter.
The woman was ordered to evacuate her home in the 27000 block of Oak Springs Canyon Road in Canyon Country and was forced to leave the three goats behind.
A County Department of Animal Care and Control Officer assisting with evacuations spotted the animals and brought them to the Castaic Animal Care Center.
DACC staffers agreed to keep the goats safe while the couple looks for a new home.
Many of the more than 800 animals housed in county animal centers in the wake of the Sand Fire are livestock.
The agency is working to reunite the animals with their families.
The Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved emergency housing vouchers for families displaced by the fire and has dispatched response teams to offer aid to local residents in evacuation centers. The board also agreed to expedite the permitting process for those planning to rebuild and to offer property tax deferrals.
