It’ll be eight years in prison for a man who used Instagram to locate the addresses of multiple female Orange County college students and steal personal effects, such as undergarments, from their residences.

Arturo Galvan has pleaded guilty to five counts of first-degree residential burglary, one count of attempted first-degree residential burglary and a misdemeanor count of resisting and obstructing a peace officer, according to Roxi Fyad of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Galvan, 44, of Menifee, was charged in January with 33 counts of first- degree burglary and one count of attempted burglary, all felonies, and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and vandalism. The remaining counts were dismissed as part of the plea deal negotiated with prosecutors.

Many of the victims lived in sorority-owned housing at Chapman University and Cal State Fullerton, according to prosecutors.

Galvan used the locating information on Instagram posts to track down where the women lived and break in when they weren’t home to steal underwear and other types of clothes, personal photos, planners, jewelry, laptop computers and tablet devices, according to Fyad.

The burglaries began in late May 2014 and continued through early December of last year, when a Fullerton police officer interrupted the suspect as he was peeping into a window, Fyad said.

Galvan got away from the officer, but was arrested later that day while attempting to break into a car, she said.
