Anaheim police Wednesday were checking whether a suspect had complied with terms of probation when they came upon a lab that was being used to extract a chemical from marijuana leaves.
Police uncovered the illegal lab about 8:30 a.m. while doing the “probation compliance check” at the probationer’s residence in the 2000 block of East Figwood Lane, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt.
“They found a small but operating BHO (butane honey oil)
lab in one of the bedrooms with an extraction in progress,” Wyatt said.
Hazardous materials experts were sent in, and about 12 to 15 residents in six neighboring condominiums had to be evacuated, Wyatt said.
Brandon Murphy, 24, of Anaheim, was booked on suspicion of manufacturing drugs with an enhancement for being within 300 feet of an occupied structure, Wyatt said. Bail was set at $75,000.

Earlier this month, police in Huntington Beach arrested a man in connection with a Jan. 20 explosion in a garage in the 2000 block of West Blue Violet Court where honey oil extractions were being done.
