A group of juveniles playing with fire torched a blaze that scorched 10 acres of brush in Moreno Valley Tuesday and took fire crews nearly five hours to contain.
The blaze was reported about 1:15 p.m. at Ironwood Avenue and Moreno Beach Drive, according to Cal Fire. The fire was initially estimated at three acres, but spreading rapidly. It quickly grew to five acres, and Cal Fire officials later estimated the blaze at nearly 30 acres. After containing the blaze around 6 p.m., Cal Fire reduced size of the fire to 10 acres.

Authorities determined the blaze was sparked by juvenile suspects playing with fire. It was unclear how many suspects were involved, but they were detained by sheriff’s officials. Their parents are expected to be held liable for the firefighting costs, according to Cal Fire.
