A speeding car swerved around a second vehicle on a stretch of Shoreline Drive used as the Long Beach Grand Prix track, and a man and a woman were killed the fiery crash.
Police dispatched about 10:45 p.m. Saturday to the 600 block of Shoreline Avenue discovered a two-vehicle crash and two crash victims, said Long Beach police Lt. Tim Olson.
Arriving officers found a 2003 Nissan on fire and the 19-year-old male driver outside the vehicle, according to police. A 19-year-old female passenger had been ejected from the car when it crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Paramedics rushed the Nissan driver to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries, Olson said. His name was also withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The other car involved in the crash, a 2011 Infiniti, remained at the scene, according to police. The preliminary investigation indicated the 19-year- old Nissan driver, a Long Beach resident, was headed north on Shoreline Drive when he made an unsafe lane change in front of the Infiniti and lost control of his car.
The Nissan slammed into the center median, a tree and a concrete barrier. The Nissan then collided with the Infiniti, according to police.
There no other reported injuries and there was no other immediate information.
