A Los Angeles Department of Transportation officer who was killed in a traffic accident while on duty in Van Nuys will be honored with a memorial sign Thursday at the intersection where he was hit.
LADOT Officer Gregory Park was struck by at least one of two vehicles involved in a collision while he was on the street issuing a parking citation on July 27 about 7:20 a.m. in the 15200 block of Victory Boulevard, according to Los Angeles police and the LADOT.
He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“His death is a reminder that our 546 traffic officers faithfully serve the city of Los Angeles while putting their own lives on the line every day,” according to a statement issued by the LADOT
Los Angeles City Councilwoman Nury Martinez, Councilman David Ryu, and LADOT leadership will pay tribute to Park and his family with a memorial sign dedication at the northwest intersection of Victory Boulevard and Columbus Avenue at 10 a.m.
Martinez’s office said Park is remembered as a military veteran who served his country and then returned home to serve his community for 12 years.
