A 24-year-old man with an outstanding warrant for driving under the influence of alcohol was arrested Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run collision that killed a 27-year-old woman trying to cross a street in Pasadena.
Investigators developed leads that led them to a home in the 800 block of North Oakland Avenue, where Francisco Javier Soto Cedillo was arrested just after 2 p.m., Pasadena police Lt. Mark Goodman said.
The vehicle believed to have been driven by Cedillo was also located at the home, Goodman said.
Cedillo, a resident of Pasadena, was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run. The Pasadena resident also had an outstanding warrant for driving under the influence of alcohol and is being held in lieu of $85,000 bail, Goodman said.
Killed in the crash about 7:30 p.m. Sunday was 27-year-old Jessica Torres, who was struck as she crossed the 1100 block of Fair Oaks Avenue just north of Claremont Street, police said.
Officers and firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision and found Torres unresponsive and suffering from major injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene, Goodman said.
There was no crosswalk at the location, police said.
The driver fled north on Fair Oaks Avenue after the crash. The vehicle had been described only as a white SUV.
The crash shut down Fair Oaks Avenue from Claremont Street to Washington Boulevard. It was reopened just before 1 a.m. Monday.
