A suspect was shot and killed by Bell Gardens police, but the circumstances that led up to the shooting were unclear Thursday morning.

The shooting occurred at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 5900 block of Loveland Street and deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s East Los Angeles Station were called to assist officers at the scene, according to Deputy Marvin Crowder of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the location, Crowder said.

Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau detectives were helping police investigate the shooting, Crowder said.

A man with a knife wound to the head was also at the location and was transported to a hospital in unknown condition, NBC4 reported.
