A 25-year-old man was killed early Thursday in a collision involving a Toyota pickup truck and a street sweeper in La Habra, and his mother later stumbled upon the crash scene while on her way to work.
A police officer arrived at the scene just after 2 a.m., seconds after the collision occurred in the 1100 block of West Imperial Highway, according to La Habra Police Department Sgt. R. Hurst.
The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County firefighters.
His mother said she was unable to reach her son and stumbled upon the crash scene hours later while on her way to work, according to NBC4, which reported that the sweeper was rear-ended by the pickup.
Police identified the young man as Alejandro Rodriguez, 25, of Whittier.
It did not appear the driver of the street sweeper was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident, Hurst said. He was not injured.
The westbound lanes of Imperial Highway, just east of Idaho Street, were closed until about 9 a.m. while an investigation into the cause of the crash was conducted, according to police.
