A man who taught at an Orange County high school pleaded no contest Friday to a sex-related count involving a 17-year-old boy who lived with him for a short time in Long Beach.
Andrew Bueno-Potts — also known as Drew Bueno-Potts — is facing two years in state prison and lifetime sex offender registration in connection with his plea to one count of sodomy of a person under 18, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The crime occurred at Bueno-Potts’ home in Long Beach when he allowed the teen to live with him between July 2017 and August 2017, according to prosecutors.
The teen was never a student at Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach, where Bueno-Potts taught, Long Beach police said shortly after he was arrested last October.
School district officials could not be reached for immediate comment on Bueno-Potts’ current employment status.
An investigation was launched last July when the teen came forward. The two met when the teen attended a school function hosted by the high school, police said last year.
Bueno-Potts, 43, has remained behind bars since he was taken into custody Oct. 23, according to jail records.
He is due back in a Long Beach courtroom for sentencing Feb. 22.
