One person — reported to be a young child — was killed and at least one other person was injured Tuesday afternoon in a head-on collision between a pickup truck and an SUV in Pomona.
The crash was reported about 4:25 p.m. on White Avenue near Fairplex Drive, according to the Pomona Police Department.
“Our preliminary information is that two vehicles were involved,” according to a police statement. “A northbound vehicle on White Avenue crossed the center divider and struck a southbound vehicle.”
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
That individual — reported by CBS2 to be a 5- to 7-year-old child — was a passenger in the back seat of a vehicle whose driver ended up trapped, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
One person was taken to a hospital, a fire department dispatch supervisor said.
The collision and subsequent investigation prompted the closure of White Avenue in the vicinity of the crash, police said.
“Our Traffic Bureau will be on scene for several hours to determine the cause and dynamics of the collision,” according to Pomona police.
