A police officer in a patrol SUV and a 59-year-old man driving a Toyota Prius both suffered non-life-threatening injuries during a two-vehicle crash in Irvine, authorities said Sunday.

The crash occurred a little before midnight Saturday in the area of Yale and Irvine Center Drive, according to a watch commander at the Irvine Police Department.

The 25-year-old officer, with lights and sirens on, was driving a Ford Explorer eastbound on Irvine Center Drive entering the intersection at an unknown speed when his SUV collided with the left side of the Toyota Prius, which had entered the intersection going northbound on Yale, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Paramedics transported both motorists, with complaints of pain, to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana.

The CHP’s Santa Ana office asked anyone who witnessed the crash to call them at 714-567-6000.
