A 40-year-old bicyclist was struck by a vehicle and killed on a street in Compton, authorities said Thursday morning.

Officers responded to area of Rosecrans Avenue, west of Aprilia Avenue, about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday and found a vehicle, bicycle and an unresponsive man laying on the road, according to California Highway Patrol Officer P. Trinidad.

A preliminary investigation determined the man was riding his bike in a poorly lit area on Rosecrans Avenue when the driver of a 2008 Honda Element changed lanes and struck the rear of the bike, causing fatal injuries to the man, Trinidad said.

The victim, who’s name was not disclosed, was declared dead at the scene by Compton Fire Department personnel, Trinidad said.

No arrests were reported.
