A man who possibly collapsed in the middle of a San Jacinto street was struck and killed Monday by a motorist who did not see him in time, authorities said.
The fatality occurred about 3:15 a.m. on North State Street, just north of the Ramona Expressway, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Mike Heath said the driver of a Toyota sedan was northbound on State when he came upon the victim lying in the middle of the road. He said the motorist braked, but could not stop the car before running over the man, whose name was not immediately released.
The driver immediately pulled over and called 911. County fire paramedics reached the location within a few minutes and attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
State was closed between the expressway and Community College Drive for seven hours while a preliminary investigation was conducted.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s San Jacinto station at 951-654-2702.
