A woman was struck and killed by a motorist pulling out of his driveway just south of Menifee, authorities said Friday.

The fatality happened about 3:30 p.m. Thursday on Whembly Circle, just west of Cherry Hinton Street, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officer Mike Lassig said a 35-year-old man was exiting his driveway in his 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck, “slowly pulling forward,” when the victim walked directly in front of him.

“The right front of the vehicle struck (her) within the northwesterly corner of the residential driveway,” Lassig said.

He said the motorist immediately stopped and called 911.

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics reached the location within a few minutes and pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Her name was not immediately released.

The driver was questioned but not arrested, and no citations were issued.

Lassig said the investigation is ongoing.

“The CHP reminds motorists to always use caution when entering a roadway from private property or from another roadway,” he said.
