A man accused of fatally shooting his 20-year-old girlfriend during an argument at their home in Riverside remained behind bars Tuesday in lieu of $2 million dollars bail pending another court hearing next month.

Fredi Lucero, 19, pleaded not guilty to a murder charge during his arraignment last week.

Police responded to a shooting call around 4:15 p.m. July 22 at a home in the 3300 block of Eucalyptus Avenue, where they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the Riverside Police Department.

The woman, Gladys “Lizzy” Elizabeth Orosco, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Officer Ryan Railsback, a police spokesman.

Lucero was identified as the suspect and was arrested hours after the shooting near Spruce Street and the 91 Freeway, according to Railsback.

“The preliminary investigation revealed Lizzy and Fredi lived together and were in a dating relationship. An argument ensued that afternoon when Fredi produced a firearm and shot Lizzy, killing her,” Railsback said.

He said the handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was found near the scene while officers were canvassing the area looking for witnesses and surveillance video.

Lucero is being held at the Southwest Detention Center, according to inmate records.

He’s scheduled to appear in court Sept. 21 for a felony settlement hearing.
