A fire caused major damage to a house on the east end of Riverside, but no one was injured, authorities said Saturday.

The blaze was reported at about 9:45 p.m. Friday in the 2000 block of 12th Street, near Douglass Avenue, according to the Riverside Fire Department.

Battalion Chief Scott Wilson said three engine crews and a truck company, numbering 17 personnel, were sent to the location and encountered flames on the back side and roof of the single-story residence.

Firefighters ventilated the structure and got hoses inside to douse the flames within 15 minutes, Wilson said.

It was unclear whether anyone was living at the property, which was left uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
