A man suspected of committing an assault with a deadly weapon — who barricaded himself inside a Carson residence for more than seven hours — has surrendered to a sheriff’s SWAT team, authorities said.

“After several hours and many verbal attempts by Carson Station deputies, [a Special Enforcement Bureau] Tactical Team and the Crisis Negotiations Team, the suspect surrendered without incident,” according to Ronald Rodil, a law enforcement technician with the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The alleged assault was reported at 5:06 p.m. on the 18000 block of South Mettler Avenue, said Deputy Veronica Fantom of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

A crisis negotiation team repeatedly tried to make contact with the armed suspect to get him to surrender, Fantom said.

Details of the assault were not available. It was also unclear whether anyone in the neighborhood was evacuated during the standoff.

Anyone with information about this incident was encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Cerritos Station at 562-860-0044. Anonymous tips can be left with Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477 or lacrimestoppers.org.
