A suspected burglar was in a standoff with Santa Ana police Wednesday afternoon that triggered a lockdown at a local school.

Police were called at about 10:15 a.m. to the 800 block of South Sullivan Street by residents of a mobile home park reporting a suspect was attempting to break into residences, according to Sgt. Maria Lopez of the Santa Ana Police Department.

The suspect managed to get into one mobile home and forced a victim to drive him out of the neighborhood to the 2000 block of West 11th Street, where he broke into a home and barricaded himself, Lopez said.

Police suspect the man is armed, she added.

Fremont Elementary School was placed on a lockdown that was later lifted and parents were able to pick up their children at the end of the school day.
