A fire in a two-story house in Van Nuys Thursday evening was knocked down in 23 minutes by 30 firefighters with no injuries reported.

The fire in the 14000 block of Califa Street, two blocks south of Oxnard Street, was reported at 8:34 p.m., according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

There was heavy smoke showing when firefighters arrived, Stewart said.

Firefighters were in offensive mode. The bulk of the fire appeared to be contents in one room and firefighters prevented it from extending through the home, Stewart said.

The residents of the house were outside by the time firefighters arrived, Stewart said.

The monetary loss and cause of the fire have not been determined.
