Valencia High School was briefly placed on lockdown Friday in response to a fight between two students that sent both to a hospital, with one of them suffering a stab wound.

The fight was reported around 10:30 a.m., prompting sheriff’s deputies to respond and school officials to place the campus on lockdown.

In a message sent to parents, William S. Hart Union High School District officials said “two students were involved in an altercation and injured.”

“During the course of this altercation one student was stabbed,” according to the district message. “Both students were transported to receive medical care and law enforcement is involved. There was a lockdown the Valencia campus while first responders were on site. The lockdown has been lifted as there is no threat to the school. A team of counselors are on site to provide support to students and staff.”

There was no immediate word on the condition of the students who were involved in the fight, or on what caused the altercation.
