An inmate who walked away from a Long Beach halfway house was recaptured Friday.

Dajuan King was arrested in the Watts area just before 1 p.m., according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

He was taken to a prison in Chino, where he will await word on whether he will face an escape charge.

CDCR officials said King walked away from the Male Community Reentry Program in Long Beach on Wednesday. At about 9:30 p.m. that day, a door alarm was activated at the facility and officials received, shortly thereafter, a tamper alert for King’s ankle monitor.

“Staff immediately initiated an emergency count, confirming King was missing,” according to CDCR. “Within minutes, agents from CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety were directed to locate and apprehend King and notification was made to local law enforcement.”

King, a second striker, was imprisoned from Los Angeles County on June 4, 2018, to serve a 10-year sentence for robbery.

CDCR officials said inmates can serve the end of their sentences at re-entry centers designed to provide them with programs and resources to ease their transition to life outside prison.
