Flames filled a two-story commercial building in downtown Los Angeles Sunday that was previously burned.
The fire was reported at 7:50 p.m. Sunday at 1390 E. Newton St., north of the Santa Monica (10) Freeway, said the Los Angeles fire Department’s Lyndsey Lantz.
The 5-thousand-square-foot building was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived and took up defensive positions outside to drown the fire with water and protect surrounding structures, Lantz said.
More than 80 firefighters had the flames out in 48 minutes, she said.
“Extensive damage, due to multiple previous burns, will be evaluated by the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety,” Lantz said. “LAFD Heavy Equipment crews are on standby for possible demolition, in the event the structure is deemed unsafe.”
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was under investigation, she said.
