An 82-year-old man was killed in a Gardena business Saturday and police arrested a 43-year-old family member of his.

Gardena police were called at 9:15 a.m. Saturday to a business in the 1500 block of West 130th Street, east of South Western Avenue, on a report of a person screaming, according to a Gardena Police Department statement.

Arriving officers first contacted and detained a man in bloodstained clothing, police said. They then found an unresponsive man inside the business.

Le Roy Harris of Inglewood was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving measures undertaken by officers, police said. Officials did not release information about the weapon used.

Based on evidence at the scene, Donte Harris of Victorville was arrested on suspicion of murder and booked at the Gardena Police Department, police said.

Harris remained in custody on $2 million bail, according to the Sheriff’s online inmate information. The nature of his kinship to the victim was not immediately provided.

An investigation was ongoing and anyone with information was asked to call Det. Ryan Sproles at 310-217-9618.
