A 28-year-old man pleaded guilty Friday and was immediately sentenced to seven years in prison for stabbing a friend during a fight in Buena Park.

Bryan Paul Augustin pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon with a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury on the victim. As part of the plea deal, a more serious charge of attempted premeditated murder was dismissed.

Augustin received credit for 1,334 days in jail.

Augustin and his 22-year-old friend got into a fight at Smith-Murphy Park at 5290 Cameron Drive July 8, 2021, police said.

During the scuffle, Augustin pulled out a knife and stabbed his friend multiple times, police said. The victim was taken to a hospital be treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was released later that day, police said.
