The investigation is continuing Sunday into the circumstances that lead at least one Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy to open fire on a man in West Hollywood, sending him to a hospital for treatment.
The shooting occurred at 5:57 p.m. Saturday in the 7100 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, near La Brea Avenue and the West Hollywood Gateway shopping mall, Deputy Gabriela Robles of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau told City News Service.
Deputies were speaking with the victim when they saw the suspect near the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and La Brea Avenue and attempted to detain him, sheriff’s officials said.
The man allegedly resisted and a physical altercation ensued, during which a deputy opened fire, hitting the suspect, according to the department.
He was treated at the scene for a gunshot wound to his lower torso before being transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
No other injuries were reported.
Multiple streets in the area were closed during the initial investigation.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives were on the scene conducting one of the investigations that occur when a deputy wounds a person, officials said.
