A 36-year-old man was shot and killed in the Westlake District Tuesday and an investigation of the shooting was underway.

Officers from Los Angeles Police Department’s Rampart Division were called at about 3 a.m. Tuesday to the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Westlake Avenue regarding a shooting. They found the victim lying near the intersection, an officer told City News Service.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. He was later identified by the Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner as Brandon Stennett.

Witnesses told police a possible suspect was seen running west on Wilshire.

The department’s West Bureau Homicide Unit is in charge of the shooting investigation, police said.
