A 3-year-old boy who ran into a street and was fatally struck by a vehicle in Long Beach was identified by county authorities Monday.
Officers were dispatched at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of a traffic crash in the area of Artesia Boulevard and Rose Avenue, just south of the Artesia (91) Freeway, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The vehicle was going westbound on Artesia Boulevard when it struck the child, who had run into the street. Paramedics took the child to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The boy was identified by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office as Noah Hernandez Perez of Long Beach.
“The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation,” police said. “Speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving do not appear to have contributed to this collision.”
Anyone with information about the crash was urged to call the LBPD at 562-570-7355. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.

This is absolutely astounding. How in the name of the heavens can a 3 year old have the chance to run out into the street into the traffic & not be stopped by whoever was responsible for his safety? Who was he with & why was he allowed to walk alone, obviously unsupervised, under those circumstances? I hope there will be some follow up information to help people understand how this tragedy occurred because it begs so may unanswered questions.
