A two-vehicle collision on Interstate 215 in Moreno Valley Wednesday injured three people, one seriously, and forced the temporary closure of multiple lanes.

The wreck was reported just before noon Wednesday on northbound I-215, near Cactus Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said a van and a Chevrolet pickup impacted, causing the occupant of one of the vehicles to be ejected onto the center divider. The exact circumstances behind the collision were unavailable.

Riverside County Fire Department crews and sheriff’s deputies were first to reach the location, shutting down three of four northbound lanes.

The victim flung onto the center divider was taken to nearby Riverside University Medical Center in critical condition, according to reports from the scene.

Another patient suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the same facility. The third victim suffered minor injuries and declined further medical attention, according to the fire department.

As of 12:20 p.m., the northbound side of the freeway remained partially shut down due to the wreckage.

The CHP was handling the investigation. Anyone with information about the accident was asked to contact the agency’s Riverside office at 951-324-7210.
