A brush fire that erupted Wednesday on a hillside just east of Moreno Valley charred nearly an acre before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Jerry Lane and Gilman Springs Road, less than a mile south of the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway, in a rugged area known as the Badlands, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews reached the location within a few minutes and encountered flames moving at a slow rate in medium vegetation, burning down slope into a drainage canal.
No structures were threatened.
Firefighters quickly established hose lays, halting the brusher’s forward rate of spread at 12:30 p.m., according to reports from the scene.
Full containment was expected by 1:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
