A 76-year-old woman who was killed when she was struck by a hit-and-run motorist and left on Metro tracks in Long Beach’s Wrigley District, where she was then struck by a Metro light-rail train, was identified Wednesday.
Officers dispatched at about 9 p.m. Saturday to the area of Long Beach Boulevard and East 23rd Street found the woman lying on the tracks on Long Beach Boulevard, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
She was identified Wednesday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Song Tate, whose cause of death was listed as deferred.
“The preliminary investigation revealed an unknown vehicle was traveling southbound on Long Beach Boulevard, when it struck the pedestrian in the roadway,” according to police. “The pedestrian was subsequently struck by the Metro light rail vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene of the collision.”
No vehicle description was immediately available.
