Cozy fireplaces are off limits again Sunday, as most of Southern California remains under a “no-burn” order due to stagnant air and pollution concerns.
Indoor fireplace use and outdoor wood burning has been prohibited by the South Coast Air Quality Management District until midnight Sunday night.
The AQMD extended the order for locations in the South Coast Air Basin, including the greater Los Angeles area, Orange County and the Inland Empire. It was extended until midnight Sunday, which will be the fifth straight day of the no-burn order.
It excludes the Coachella Valley, residences above 3,000 feet in elevation, and homes where there is no other source of heat.
Fine particles in wood smoke can penetrate deep into lungs, causing problems for people with asthma or other respiratory disorder, the AQMD repeated.
Residents can register online at www.AirAlerts.org to receive email alerts when no-burn alerts are issued in their area.
