It’s tough enough battling crowds, going through security and trying to make your flight at LAX, but what if there are no restrooms?

Operations at Terminal 5 at Los Angeles International Airport were back to normal Saturday morning after a water main break disrupted traffic and forced the closure of terminal restrooms for about seven hours.

The hairline crack in the main occurred around 10:30 a.m. on the lower/arrivals level of the airport in front of the terminal, according to LAX officials. The curb lane of the lower airport roadway was closed in front of the terminal while crews dug into the street to access the ruptured main.

The water line was shut down, forcing the closure of restrooms in Terminal 5. Passengers and airport visitors were advised not to drink from water fountains in the terminal, and airport workers passed out bottled water.

Portable restrooms also were brought to the terminal.

Water service was restored at roughly 5:15 p.m. All terminal operations were fully restored about 6:45 p.m., including the curb lane outside the terminal under which the pipe cracked, said LAX spokesman Charles Pannunzio.

Motorists are again using the curb lane outside Terminal 5 to drop off their passengers, Pannunzio added.
