A $36.7 million Imperial Irrigation District grid project aimed at enhancing grid operations for customers in the Coachella and Imperial valleys will move forward Thursday.
“At IID, we work hard to leverage partnerships at every level of government to improve our systems, support growth in our region and reduce the financial burden on our customers,” Chairwoman of the IID Board of Directors Karin Eugenio said in a statement.
The Advanced Distribution Management System, which was submitted in 2024 for approval from the Trump administration, recently received a $18.3 million federal investment and was matched with IID’s contribution, totaling the project at $36.7 million.
ADMS was designed to “integrate IID’s core grid management systems into a unified, real-time platform,” ensuring a more efficient restoration during outages and improving reliability for customers residing in a region facing increasing energy demands and extreme heat, officials said.
“This project is about ensuring our system performs when it matters most,” Jamie Asbury, IID general manager, said in a statement. “The administration’s actions to advance this investment aligns directly with our shared focus on reliability and performance. It strengthens our grid today while preparing us to meet the region’s growing energy needs.”
