
The television shows “Jane the Virgin” and “Cristela” and the films “The Book of Life” and “Ana Maria in Novela Land” are among the top nominees heading into Friday night’s presentation of the 30th annual Imagen Awards, which honor portrayals of Latinos and Latino culture in television and film.
“The Book of Life” and “Ana Maria in Novela Land” will compete for best picture with “Lake Los Angeles,” “McFarland” and “Spare Parts.”
Diego Luna and Zoe Saldana are both nominated for their acting work in “The Book of Life,” while Michael Steger and Edy Ganem are nominated for “Ana Maria in Novela Land.”
Also nominated for best actor are George Lopez for “Spare Parts” and Roberto Sanchez for “Lake Los Angeles.”
Rounding out the best actress category are Rosario Dawson for “Top Five” and Vannessa Vasquez for “Sins of a Call Girl.”
On the small screen, nominees for best drama are “Castle,” “East Los High,” “Forever,” “The Fosters,” “Gang Related,” “Law and Order: SVU,” “Looking” and “Major Crimes.” For best comedy, nominees are “Brooklyn Nine- Nine,” “Cristela,” “Jane the Virgin,” “Modern Family” and “The Mysteries of Laura.”
Four members of the “Devious Maids” cast are up for best television actress — Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Judy Reyes and Roselyn Sanchez. Also nominated are Monica Raymund of “Chicago Fire” and Gina Rodriguez of “Jane the Virgin.”
Nominated for best television actor are Mark Consuelos of “Alpha House,” Gael Garcia Bernal for “Mozart in the Jungle,” Diogo Morgado of “The Messengers,” Jon Seda of “Chicago PD” and Jimmy Smits for “Sons of Anarchy.”
