Each episode of “Bill Nye Saves the World” will examine a topic from a scientific point of view, dispelling myths, and refuting anti-scientific claims espoused by politicians, religious or business leaders, according to Netflix.
“Since the start of the ‘Science Guy’ show, I’ve been on a mission to change the world by getting people everywhere excited about the fundamental ideas in science,” Nye said Wednesday.
“Today, I’m excited to be working with Netflix on a new show, where we’ll discuss the complex scientific issues facing us today, with episodes on vaccinations, genetically modified foods and climate change. With the right science and good writing, we’ll do our best to enlighten and entertain our audience. And, perhaps we’ll change the world a little.”
Nye will bring in guests and conduct experiments and demonstrations.
“Bill Nye Saves the World” will have both a head comedy writer, comedian Mike Drucker, and a head science writer, Phil Plait, an astronomer, author and award-winning science communicator.
The show will be produced by Michael Naidus, who produced the CBS talk show, “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.”
Nye is best known for hosting the 1993-98 Public Broadcasting Series “Bill Nye the Science Guy” which won 19 Daytime Emmy Awards.
