Shortly after he turned 61, controversial actor and director Mel Gibson has become a father for the ninth time, his publicist confirmed.

The announcement came as Gibson was nominated for a best director Oscar for his film “Hacksaw Ridge” and the film itself was given a nod for best picture.

Gibson’s girlfriend Rosalind Ross gave birth to Lars Gerard Gibson on Friday, according to publicist Alan Nierob.

The baby weighed five pounds, five ounces at birth.

Gibson, famed originally for his “Mad Max” stint, was years ago shunned by Hollywood after world-wide publicity over a Malibu sheriff’s stop for alleged DUI in which the actor was quoted as making anti-Semitic remarks.

He turned 61 Jan. 3.
