Hugh Jackman’s return to the role of Wolverine in the “X-Men” sequel “Logan” dominated North American theaters over the weekend, opening with $88.4 million, according to final figures released Monday.

The big-money opening set a record for an R-rated March debut, according to box-office tracker comScore.

The comedy-horror hybrid “Get Out” slipped into second place, earning $28.2 million between Friday and Sunday, followed by the more sentimental “The Shack,” which opened with $16.2 million.

“The Lego Batman Movie” earned $11.7 million over the weekend to place fourth, followed by the thriller “John Wick: Chapter Two,” with $4.8 million.

Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “Before I Fall” ($4.7 million); “Hidden Figures” ($3.8 million); “The Great Wall” ($3.6 million); “Fifty Shades Darker” ($3.5 million); and “La La Land” ($3 million).
