Singer Elton John announced Wednesday that his upcoming world tour will be his last, but Los Angeles fans will have two chances to see the piano-playing icon in concert.
The singer’s three-year-old “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour will begin in September in Pennsylvania. The tour includes two dates at Staples Center, on Jan. 22 and Jan. 23 of next year.
He will also perform at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego on Jan. 29, 2019.
Tickets for all three shows are scheduled to go on sale Feb. 2 at www.axs.com.
John says his decision to stop touring was not prompted by any health concerns, but a desire to focus on his family.
“I have children and that changed our lives,” he said during a news conference announcing the final tour.
“I’ve had an amazing life, amazing career,” he said. “My priorities now are my children, my husband and my family and I’ve been touring since I was 17 with various bands, then as Elton John in 1969 and thought the time was right to say thank you to all my friends around the world globally and then to say goodbye and just to have a breather.”
He said he does not plan to retire from music altogether, just from touring.
