Actor Luke Perry, who had been hospitalized since last week after suffering a major stroke, died Monday at a Burbank hospital.
Publicist Arnold Robinson released a statement to media outlets, saying the 52-year-old actor died “surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiance Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, stepfather Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends.”
“The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning,” he said. “No further details will be released at this time.”
Perry was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital last Wednesday by paramedics, who were called to his Sherman Oaks home at 9:40 a.m.
Perry has been starring as Archie’s dad on the CW Network show “Riverdale” and had been shooting episodes recently on the Warner Bros. lot.
The actor’s medical crisis occurred on the same day Fox announced it is rebooting “Beverly Hills, 90210” — the show on which he shot to fame playing Dylan McKay in the 1990s.
While his former co-stars — Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Jason Priestly, Brian Austin Green, Tori Spelling and Gabrielle Carteris — will be on the revived series, Perry apparently had not signed on to the project.
