A former husband of Geena Davis has reached a settlement “in principle” with a law firm that sued him for more than $2 million in allegedly unpaid attorneys’ fees and costs associated with his 2018 divorce from the Oscar-winning actress.
The Kolodny Group Inc., formerly known as the Kolodny Law Group, filed the suit in Los Angeles Superior Court against Dr. Reza Jarrahy, alleging breach of contract and unjust enrichment. Although some of the fees and expenses had been paid by the time the suit was filed last March 29, Jarrahy still owed $2.16 million, the suit states.
On Wednesday, the attorneys filed joint court papers with Judge Daniel M. Crowley notifying him of the settlement “in principle” and additionally stated that a final notice will be submitted once all documentation of the resolution is complete. No terms were divulged.
Jarrahy, a 53-year-old plastic surgeon, filed his divorce petition in May 2018, seeking spousal support from the 68-year-old Davis, who maintained their September 2001 ceremony in the Hamptons in Long Island was not an authentic marriage because Jarrahy’s father, Parviz Jarrahy, was not qualified to marry people under New York law.
However, the Iranian-American Jarrahy maintained his father was a valid officiant of his wedding under Islamic law.
The former couple are the parents of a 21-year-old daughter and twin 19-year-old sons.
Jarrahy’s former lead attorney, longtime family law practitioner Stephen A. Kolodny, died May 30, 2020, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at age 79.
Davis won an Oscar for best supporting actress in the 1988 film “The Accidental Tourist.” Her other notable roles were in “Tootsie,” “Beetlejuice,” “The Fly” and “Thelma & Louise.” Before meeting Jarrahy, she had three prior marriages, including one to actor Jeff Goldblum.
