Firefighters freed a person from the wreckage of a multi-vehicle crash on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Mission Hills Friday evening that injured five people, one critically.
The accident occurred just north of the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway about 9:55 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
A person who was trapped in a vehicle was freed by firefighters and taken to a hospital in critical condition, Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
“The extrication was an extended operation due to the severity of damage to the vehicle,” Stewart said.
Two other patients were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the remaining two patients declined to go to a hospital, Stewart said.
The crash left vehicles in lanes of traffic and all northbound lanes of the freeway at the Ronald Reagan Freeway were stopped about 10:20 p.m., the CHP said.
