A helpless trapped man and woman were killed in a fiery, single-vehicle crash on the Angeles Crest (2) Highway in the Angeles National Forest, the California Highway Patrol said Sunday.

The crash on the westbound highway, east of mile marker 33.40, occurred a little after 1 a.m. Saturday, the CHP reported.

The man was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, which failed to handle a curve in the roadway, went in a northwesterly direction off the road and directly toward an ascending hillside located on the north end of the road, the CHP said.

The Chevy overturned onto its roof, partially blocked the eastbound lane and caught fire, with both the driver and passenger still inside. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP’s Altadena office urged anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at 626-296-8100.
