The southbound Hollywood (101) Freeway was shut down near downtown early Sunday morning after a body was found in the road.

The California Highway Patrol was notified about the body at 3:30 a.m., said CHP Officer Stephan Brandt. It was located north of Alameda Street.

There was no description of the deceased and an investigation was underway to determine whether the person was a pedestrian struck by a vehicle, the CHP said.

The CHP issued a SigAlert shutting down all southbound lanes from north of Alameda Street until further notice. At 5:30 a.m., the CHP reopened the No. 1 lane to traffic.
